Welcome to The Honest Channel! I’m Clare Johnston, a journalist dedicated to exploring healthy aging and sharing insights on looking and feeling fabulous for longer. In 2023, I delved deeply into the science behind rejuvenating our skin and identified various effective methods for maintaining its health, all backed by research and expert advice. Here’s a comprehensive overview of my findings.
One prominent area of growth this year has been the use of exosomes and growth factors in skincare to combat age-related damage. Exosomes are small, sphere-like vesicles containing growth factors and peptides essential for cell communication. As we age, the levels of these vital components decrease, resulting in reduced skin renewal and repair capabilities. This year saw a surge in exosome-based treatments, including micro-needling facials and subdermal injections. Personally, I tried an exosome facial with Calecim’s facial serum and experienced noticeable improvements in my skin’s hydration and plumpness.
Calecim’s products are innovative, deriving peptides from umbilical cord stem cells from Red Deer. While their animal-derived nature may raise concerns for some, using these products topically has proven effective, with no major safety issues reported. I’ve incorporated Calecim’s multi-action cream into my nightly routine, which has balanced my skin beautifully over time.
On another front, discussions about using estrogen in skincare gained traction. Insufficient estrogen leads to thinner skin and increased signs of aging, but treating with hormone therapy shows promise in enhancing collagen production and skin hydration. It’s crucial to consult a doctor before applying estrogen-based products, especially considering the varying body responses.
Additionally, I uncovered the substantial benefits of resistance training for skin health. Research indicates that weightlifting not only strengthens muscles but also enhances skin thickness and elasticity. As I embraced this form of exercise, I noticed improvements in my skin texture alongside my muscle strength.
This year, I also turned to red light therapy for its anti-aging benefits. Using low-level wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, I found it helps treat wrinkles and promotes collagen production. A consistent regimen of just six minutes a day proved effective, especially when combined with pulsed light options to minimize potential adverse effects.
Supplements emerged as another vital aspect of my skincare journey, particularly those targeting collagen and hyaluronic acid. New studies suggest that hydrolyzed collagen, especially at lower molecular weights, is better absorbed, leading to reduced wrinkles and improved skin hydration. I also added hyaluronic acid capsules, which have shown effectiveness in enhancing skin health based on several studies.
Furthermore, I mastered various methods to boost blood flow to facial skin, including microcurrent devices and manual massage techniques. These methods not only promote oxygen supply to skin cells, enhancing their overall health, but also reinforce muscle tone.
In 2023, I adjusted my retinoid use, opting for gentler formulations to counteract dryness. This year clarified for me that skincare is not one-size-fits-all; the foundation for youthful skin hinges on a holistic approach that includes a balanced diet, exercise, adequate sleep, and overall wellness.
Ultimately, my journey has revealed that good skincare is an integrated process involving lifestyle choices rather than isolated treatments. I’m excited to share more findings in 2024 and grateful for the support I’ve received. Be sure to subscribe for ongoing expert insights on healthy aging at my website honest.scot. Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to our next adventure together!

I recently found out that HRT, BC, basically hormones can cause hyperpigmentation.
Do you get any face related treatments or procedures at a doctor, spa, or etc? If so can you share what and how often.

What a wonderful educational fun learning experience to listen to your channel. Thank you so much for investing in us.
I use Bear Foreo for couple of years now and just started FAQ Swiss LED mask. Both fantastic!
Wondering why there was no mention of Adipeau. 🤔
Why you did not use their night cream?
Thank you Clare for communicating so well on all the alternatives health & beauty maintenance products & regimes. After having a total hysterectomy because at age 57 my hair started to fall out & jowls started to appear Z. But now on Oestrogel & Testogel in small doses & micro current & 3 minutes salted damp towel neck practice & my jowls are gone. Using collagen peptides on skin & have always used high factor sun screen ( fair skinned) & taking magnesium Glycinate & NMN with Apinin to help me relax before bedtime. Working out every other day on top of usual physical activity & feeling better & looking better. Your channel helped me to make informed choices, so thank you so much 😊
Will the potency in Calecim decrease during shipping to a Country that is freezing 🥶 ?
Do you believe the hair serum would come with enough to do a full front and sides of the head? Thank you for your videos:)
Thank you. Re resistance training, I recommend Coach Ali on YouTube. He has in and outside gym workouts.
Calecim – how does your husband and father's hair look now that some time has passed since you youtubed about calecim?
Love your videos. You are truly a wealth of information in so many products that makes it easier with choosing what’s right for me. So thank you. I also absolutely love the bird necklace you wear. Is that something you can share as to where you bought it?
Some of the best skin I've ever had was on a clean Mediterranean style diet. Limiting sugar and processed food. Eat fermented dairy and high fiber vegetables and you'll have the healthy baby smooth skin.
Hi Clare, have a Blessed Wonderful Christmas. My name is Karla, iam 62 in good ole Oklahoma. lol so glad you popped up on my home page, I have subscribed to your channel and will be watching past videos. Have you done any research on the Skin Medica TNS growth factor Serum? It’s like $300/ bottle. I am getting ready to purchase it as I have so much facial fat loss and bone loss as well as I swear my face has fallen. 😢 I have used Reviv Ultimate Serum which is supposed to be a dupe for TNS Growth Factor Serum but much cheaper, but it took 3-31/2 weeks to receive my order. Did not repurchase. I’ve used Photozyme Youth Serum as well as their Vit C serum, I have repurchased this one, but really not seeing results that I had hopes in seeing. Soo I decided to wait and go with the “ Best”. The prices of Skin Medica TNS serum is out of my budget, but felt like it would be so worth it, but would love to hear you “ Honest Review “ on these. My eye lids have dropped substantially after cataract surgery, it’s really frustrating is it not?
So good to hear your in-depth reviews on growth factor serums and other. I too stopped Tret. As I never had a day that my skin was not shedding( literally strips of my skin would shed.) so I now am using Medic 8 crystalized Retinaldhyde serum and am loving it. Thank you for giving us such great in depth studies on products.
Your skin is looking great! 😊💕 I've been using the Calecim Multi Action Cream for a few weeks and am loving the results! My skin is looking noticeably plumper 😁🙌 Looking forward to more improvement with continued use. I haven't tried the Professional Serum, but it seems like it's meant for clinical use or post-procedural. Is that correct?
I loved this year end recap! Looking forward to learning along with you in 2024
I am your new subscriber Clare 🙂 thank you for all the info and the links you post. I am following a few of your products cos I am one of those that less is more. I have my eyes on your GG Retinal and your moisturiser. Can you please make a review of Biologique Recherche especially their P50 lotions ? Tnx. Happy New Year.
Fantastic Clare, it has been wonderful to find you this year. Wishing you, hubby and your lovely Mum and Dad a very Merry Christmas. Look forward to seeing you in the New year 🎄🥂🎁
There is no doubt that in 2023 I learned a lot thanks to your great information! Such as The magnificent creation of ADIPEAU, facial exercises, Weight Lifting, collagen with peptides. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Magnificent New Year 2024 🎉✨💫🎊🌟⭐️ 🙋🏻♀️😘
Wait who won the ZIIP?
I think this woman’s channel is the best beauty channel by far!
Growth factors have been known to cause skin cancer. I was using TNS growth factors and had virtually no results and did have 2 skin cancers on my forehead and cheek. Be careful with these!
best video yet!
Great video, comprehensive, well rounded, and informative!
Thanks for sharing for you the key game changers. I watched an older video from you about EvenSkyn® Lumo for face and neck and EvenSkyn Venus for the yes. I was interested to purchase both of them based on your video. Note that for this update video, you did not mentioned neither of these tools … Can you please share if you still use Eveskyn Lumo and Venus? Also, if you would recommend still recommend them as it seems you do not use them anymore…? Happy Holidays and thanks for your honest feedback and guidance.
Hey Claire! Very nice and useful overview 🙂 I wonder why you stopped using Evenskyn Lumo – was it that you didn't get any results or maybe got any fat loss of it?
I wondering why you chose Calecim over CharaOmni as I think you have tried both? Do you think one is better than the other or is it because your dad and hubby had such great results with the hair growth? Thanks Claire
I'm thinking of making the switch from 0.05 Tretinoin to a retinol product. I've been using it for 25 years, and I think my skin can benefit from a gentler form. What do you use and suggest?
You are looking so gorgeous and radiant, Clare. I think i read somewhere that you are now focusing full-time on your YT channel. I have absolutely no doubt that you will make a success of that (you already have!). Wishing you continued success…onward and upward and looking forward to all your videos in 2024. Val 🥰🤗
