Video at the bottom!
In this episode of The Honest Channel, host Clare Johnston engages with Dr. Mike Sherratt from the University of Manchester and Dr. Mike Bell, head of science research at No7, to discuss a groundbreaking development in anti-aging skincare. They delve into the creation of synthetic peptides—mimicking the natural peptides found in youthful skin that diminish with age.
Peptides are crucial for signaling skin cells to repair and rejuvenate, offering the promise to reverse some damage caused by aging. The conversation highlights the recent launch of No7’s Future Renew range, which has garnered significant attention since its UK debut in April and is expanding into international markets.
Dr. Bell and Dr. Sherratt explain their multi-year collaboration, emphasizing their focus on understanding how skin proteins are damaged and what signals can be used to prompt repair. Utilizing advanced machine learning techniques, they successfully identified specific synthetic peptides designed to stimulate healing processes in the skin.
They clarify that these peptides are not derived from plants or animals; rather, they are synthesized to replicate the peptides naturally occurring in human skin. This innovative approach enables the formulation of peptides that can penetrate the skin barrier, thanks to their optimal size, allowing them to reach the living cells where repair processes can be activated.
The discussion also touches on a clinical trial involving a split-face design, where participants applied the serum on one side of their face while leaving the other side untreated. Grading by dermatological experts revealed significant improvements in various skin conditions, such as lines, wrinkles, and even skin tone, establishing the serum’s efficacy within a three-month period.
Dr. Bell reassured that while immediate improvements in hydration and radiance can be seen within weeks, substantial changes like reduced wrinkles and improved skin firmness materialize over time. The clinical studies showed that after six months, a notable 97% of participants experienced visible improvements.
The conversation further explored the long-term benefits of continued use and the potential plateauing of effects after six months. Notably, a recent biopsy study revealed increased levels of fibrillin proteins in participants, signifying robust engagement of skin repair mechanisms.
When asked about the future of peptide technology, the researchers expressed their excitement, highlighting the many potential applications within both dermatology and broader medical fields. They describe the opportunity to develop new peptides that might inspire solutions for various aging-related concerns beyond skin health.
Overall, this insightful dialogue not only unveils the promising capabilities of synthetic peptides in skincare but also sets the stage for future innovations that may enhance human health and beauty.

Do you have a link to the clinical trials?
Thank you for interviewing scientists behind the products. In this age of "influencers" it is helpful to weed out what is what. It helps that they can speak to the general public as well. Well done!
Hello Clare! Thank you so much for the in depth interview. I enjoyed it a lot. As I'm living in Germany, I can't order anything from the UK/US Store. Do you know when it will be available in Europe(Germany)?
WILL THE COMPANY COURIER TO INDIA?
I would have preferred if one side of the face had the peptide serum and the contol side had a non peptide serum. Hiw do you know it was the peptide in the serum that caused the improvement and not just moisturizing factors.
How does this compare with One Skin?
Interesting but i don't see much on aging and decline in estrogen and menopause. We can do many things to improve our skin and I'm a big believer in Number 1 thing SPF daily and nutrition but once we have lost our estrogen there's no topical solution to negate the loss that will happen in the years after menopause. Women are already going up against a losing battle with how much collagen and hyaluronic acid that's lost from estrogen decline and loss through menopause. Sun damage is a big factor but nobody is talking about the inevitable cause 9f aging with hormone loss. It's massively important. Would love to hear more on this subject and the role HRT plays in anti aging if taken during perimenopause.
i have lots of peri-orbital fat loss and sagging upper eyelids… do you think this will help with those problems?
BTW, They look Good don't they…… For their work. Noooo Sorry they do not.
They Simply Talk it All Up thinking it sounds high & Above Mighty' For Sales – Stocks & Shares to boots, the most over priced chemist from an age gone by, Same as the Old image of marks & spencers' they need to change attracting grannies & grandfathers. Ty
This was finally released in the US! 🥳🎉
I love peptides
What is the the level of UVA protection in the Future Renew day cream? Is it 5 stars like in the Lift & Luminate day cream?
We can learn a lot from your interview. (excellent questions)
I tried to order for pick up at at Walgreens here in AZ. They took the order and then cancelled it due to no inventory. Does anyone know where to purchase in the U.S. as yet? Thanks!
I love it when scientists know how to explain complicated concepts in ways that anyone can understand.
Thank you for providing such incredible content! I truly admire the topics you cover, your engaging debates, and your skill in asking thought-provoking questions. As a discerning skincare consumer, I greatly appreciate your valuable insights.
With that said, I would be immensely grateful if you could kindly evaluate the Regimenlab line. They place a strong emphasis on extensively peer-reviewed scientific research and conduct testing with real individuals. Their claim is to exclusively incorporate scientifically backed ingredients in their serums. It would be incredibly valuable if you could thoroughly examine their brand and consider the possibility of conducting an interview with them.
Great interview and received my order here in US. Still trying to find information to determine application order if one uses tretinoin. Tretinoin first then this serum or tretinoin one night and future renew serum the next night. Anyone know?
So now I want to know, out of all these peptide product review videos, which brand have you wound up using in your daily routine yourself? OneSkin is quite expensive, so I'm definitely looking for an alternative to that, but can't deny it is effective.
I'm not at all interested, boots test in their own clinic' & they say Proven!! They can say anything, is look at protect & perfect' they did their own tests too! No way & nothing will ever step over retin A!
I love this, I’m currently a PhD student in protein biophysics, would love to have a look in their group for a post doc, I love skincare.
The night cream is lovely but I won’t be able to buy the day cream again as even though I don’t put it close to my eyes it makes it’s way into my eyes and they sting and run. It would be great if a day cream could be made so this doesn’t happen as the day cream I’ve always used was fine with no sensitivity to my eyes
