Video at the bottom!
In today’s video, the focus is on crafting an effective anti-aging evening skincare routine using products from The Ordinary. The host discusses the benefits of sticking with one brand for a streamlined routine, especially when it comes to targeting concerns like aging, dehydration, and sensitivity. At 46, with combination and rosacea-prone skin, she emphasizes the importance of hydration to reduce breakouts and flare-ups.
The routine consists of eight steps, although she mentions that you don’t need a lengthy regimen to achieve results. The first step is cleansing, for which she prefers The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser. This gentle cleanser effectively removes makeup and impurities without stripping the skin. For those wanting to try it out, she notes the availability of different sizes, making it affordable.
Next, she steps into the realm of exfoliation. While The Ordinary doesn’t offer a traditional toner, she suggests their Glycolic Acid Toning Solution. However, she warns that this product is not a gentle toner but rather a high-percentage exfoliant that should be used cautiously.
At this point, she transitions into a product from the Deciem umbrella: Neon’s Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist. This mist provides hydration and antioxidants, helping to soothe and balance the skin post-cleansing.
The third step varies based on her skin’s needs, emphasizing responsive care. Depending on the day, she might select one of three actives: a Salicylic Acid Mask for clearing pores, Lactic Acid for gentle exfoliation, or one of The Ordinary’s retinol products for anti-aging. She shares that retinol remains a keystone in her routine, promoting cell turnover and elasticity while reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Following the active treatment, she applies Pycnogenol from The Ordinary, a powerful antioxidant that helps with hydration and elasticity. Then, for a hydrating boost, she turns to Amino Acids + B5, which works best on damp skin.
In the sixth step, she introduces peptides through The Ordinary’s Matrixyl Serum, known for its ability to produce collagen and improve skin elasticity. This is followed by another peptide product, Argireline Solution, which targets dynamic fine lines and wrinkles, acting almost as a spot treatment for areas of concern.
Finally, she concludes her routine with The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors. This moisturizer is rich in beneficial ingredients that mimic those naturally occurring in the skin, thus providing optimal hydration and protection.
While she primarily focuses on The Ordinary products, the use of a mist that falls under the broader Deciem umbrella exemplifies how individuals can blend brands if desired. The host encourages flexibility with routines, noting that while she values her eight-step method, the key to effective skincare is adjusting based on personal skin needs and tolerances.
Throughout, she emphasizes a less-is-more approach, advocating for the thoughtful application of products without overloading the skin. The detailed insights shared in the video will undoubtedly provide viewers with a structured approach to their evening skincare routines, allowing them to prioritize hydration and active ingredients for anti-aging benefits.

Hey ! from what in ordinary's conflicts is that they dont advice to mix antioxidants with peptides and I was thinking how to manage the routine at all then… Do you think it is safe to mix antioxidants with peptides? I wanted to use Survival from Niod with MAtrixyl from the ordinary and not sure of that is okay?
I completely agree that it was a mistake to name the glycolic solution a "toner." It makes people think they should be using it every day, and most people absolutely shouldn't. Honestly, The Ordinary is responsible for getting a lot of people into skincare (great!), but also for a LOT of overexfoliation in the process (not so great). Looking at you, glycolic "toner" and purple face disintegrator.
Great video. I noticed in your morning routine using the ordinary, you like to put the actives on first, as close to the skin as possible. After cleansing you applied the Resveratrol. I also use that occasionally. The only reason I question this order is because it's rather oily, heavy, and
I'd feel the peptides or whatever I put on after would not effectively sink into the skin…
I've heard that glycerine is bad for your skin?
Hi, enjoyed watching video, would like to know when u use buffet? And what is the best exfoliate product by ordinary? Thx u
I love The Ordinary for the same reasons: Affordable and effective. That said, I've moved on to different brands for my staple hyaluronic acid and niacinamide serums because I find The Ordinary versions too "gloopy." Inkey List has an equally affordable hyaluronic serum which I find silkier and I truly love Glossier's Super Pure niacinamide despite the price tag. The Ordinary can't be beat for the argireline, squalene, or pycnogenol (highly underrated, that one, and so glad you mentioned it) though.
I wonder if The Ordinary will ever add a hydrating toner to their line up. I’ve used the Hylamide SubQ Mist in the past as my toner the way you use the Niod SDSM.
Great video Christa! I love The Ordinary.

I find your periodic “routine” videos very helpful. Knowing the correct order in which to use so many products is important in order to get maximum benefits. Thanks!
